In my work, I strive to integrate into one's consciousness the essence of pure color, as well as the mysteries of light and of mind. These mysteries have always been part of my work since my early experimentation with water prisms, and they extend to my current work with holography and optical glass. Holograms hold an ability to enchant the viewer in a unique way. The elusiveness of the image within a hologram provokes speculation about our visual perception. What is real and what is illusion? Is a holographic space a real space?

I was born and raised in Albuquerque, New Mexico and my early years in the vast landscape and dry climate of the high desert and mountains gave me the opportunity to develop a true appreciation for the elegance of light. After three years of studying art and physics at the university level in the southwest, I moved to New York City to pursue my studies and visions within the world of art there. In 1983, after viewing my first hologram, I realized I had discovered a direct path to a deeper understanding of the force of light. In 1984 and l985, I developed my holography skills at the Museum of Holography in N.Y.C. under the direction of Fred Untersher, a pioneer and early innovator in holography.

Since 1986, I have specialized in the field of "reflection dichromated gelatin holography". This type of holography is unsurpassed in its clarity and superior quality. My progress in developing and refining processes and techniques in this demanding technology have allowed me to manipulate light into various beautiful and subtle forms. My most recent works include the lamination of optical glass and creation of holograms in multiple layers. I call this current body of work "Time Capsules", a reference to light as being the vehicle of time.

I view holograms as windows into a realm in which the range of energy frequencies we perceive are far greater than our normal reality. What we usually recognize as reality is only a small glimpse of the total actuality. Tuning our senses to different frequencies will reveal vast oceans of knowledge, our understanding of which can be used, in turn, to elevate our quality of life. As we enter the next millenium, holograms may very well be one of the tools that can make the journey of our existence more rewarding.
